Home Energy Audits

The Arctic Renewables Society is able to offer a limited-number of FREE home energy audits in September 2020.

The Arctic Renewables Society will be training new, Nunavut-based energy auditors for residential homes in Iqaluit. The training will take place in Iqaluit between Sept. 7th and Sept. 17th. As part of the training, we need homes to audit!

To enable this training, the Society is offering a limited number of FREE Home Energy Audits to help us meet our training requirements. These audits will also help participating residents learn more about how your home uses energy and how you can lower your bills. Please contact us by phone or e-mail to book an audit.

These Audits can also be used as part of NRCan’s “Greener Homes” initiative. “Greener Homes” helps homeowners access funding for doing energy efficiency home retrofits. You can sign up for the initiative here:

https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy-efficiency/homes/canada-greener-homes-grant/23441

If you are signing up for the initiative, please select “Eco Advantage Energy Advisors”. This is the company assisting us with training.

Announcing Solar PV Installation Training

The Arctic Renewables Society is happy to announce that we will be offering Solar PV Installation training during the first week of November.

This training will take place in person in Iqaluit.

The training will be provided by GridWorks, and Indigenous-owned solar installation company based in Alberta. We will be bringing one trainer through the isolation hub in Ottawa.

While ONLY FULL ELECTRICIANS will be able to become certified installers, this course is still open to anyone who wishes to learn how to design and install a solar photovoltaic system. Only electricians will be able to perform the electrical work on the final hands-on portion of the certification.

This course is open to all Nunavummiut. Cost to participate:

Non-GN residents: FREE

GN-employed residents: $1500

Dates: Nov. 2 – 6, 2020

Location: Iqaluit, NU

In this course consists of five days of in-class and hands-on training that provides a solid footing in the theoretical, social, environmental, and practical application of solar PV design and installation.

There is a hands-on solar PV installation that students will complete as part of the training.

Special thanks to the GN Department of ED&T, QBDC, and NRC for joining with the Arctic Renewables Society in making this training possible!
